Engineering Report: Inside the BY-YS12000 Electric Garbage Compactor
Technical Specifications of the BY-YS12000
The BY-YS12000 (Official Model: JBY5120ZYSBEV) is a pure electric compaction garbage truck built on a new-generation, heavy-duty sanitation-specific electric chassis (Chassis Model: SH1127ZHEVWZY2) developed by SAIC MAXUS. This is not a “retrofitted” diesel platform; it was engineered from the ground up as an electric sanitation chassis. This ensures optimal performance across the board, from axle load distribution to the thermal management of the powertrain.
According to the manufacturer’s specification sheet, the vehicle has a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 12.5 tons, a curb weight of 6,840 kg, and a rated payload of 5,460 kg. Its overall dimensions are 7,340 × 2,360 × 2,830 mm. The refuse container offers an effective volume of 8.8 cubic meters and utilizes a bidirectional compression method. The body structure is constructed from Q355 high-strength steel—a weathering-resistant grade commonly specified for outdoor components exposed to corrosive garbage leachate.
Power System: Verifiable Data, Not Marketing Slogans
The battery pack is supplied by CATL, utilizing Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry. The choice of LFP is based on its industry-recognized thermal stability rather than raw energy density. The battery specifications are 618.24V / 228Ah, providing an energy content of 140.95 kWh. The charging port, located on the right side of the vehicle, supports DC fast charging and carries an IP68 protection rating. Given that sanitation trucks frequently operate in environments with water and leachate, this dustproof and waterproof detail is critical.
Under full charge, the manufacturer’s tested driving range is 305 km. The drive motor is a permanent magnet synchronous motor (Model: TZ370XS-LKM0760) jointly developed by Baiyi and SAIC MAXUS, with a rated power of 75 kW and a peak power of 160 kW. It delivers a rated torque of 300 N·m and a peak torque of 850 N·m. The maximum speed under full load is 89 km/h, with a maximum gradeability of 25%.
We disclose these figures in full—including the less “glamorous” curb weight and axle load distribution—because we understand that a spec sheet showing only favorable data cannot earn the trust of professional buyers.

Engineering Details Often Overlooked
There are three key design decisions in this vehicle that deserve detailed explanation, as they are not immediately obvious from a photograph:
- Low-Level Loading Mechanism: Traditional rear-loading compactors have high loading heights, creating safety risks for workers manually tossing bins. The BY-YS12000 utilizes an “integrated, sunken, curved body” design, lowering the loading height to under 1.5 meters. This is a structural transformation, not a cosmetic one—it required redesigning the rear floor plate to form a built-in loading hopper rather than simply bolting on an external one.
- Adaptive Discharge Technology: This is a patent-protected technology. During the unloading process, the “push-shovel + push-plate” combination structure ensures continuous contact between the push plate and the container floor. Our internal testing shows that this design effectively reduces residual waste after discharge—a common pain point in older compactor designs where garbage often gets trapped in corners.
- Dual Wastewater Tank Configuration: Located on the left side and at the bottom of the refuse bin, this addresses a frequently underestimated issue: liquid waste generated during compression needs a place to go. The side wastewater tank has a capacity of 180 liters, with an additional 500-liter tank at the bottom, significantly increasing the leachate storage capacity.
Certifications Beyond the Labels
Shandong Baiyi Intelligent Equipment Co., Ltd. operates a 130,000-square-meter R&D and production base in the Jinan Economic Development Zone, with a team of over 60 R&D engineers and more than 10 years of industry experience. The company holds ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environmental), and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) management system certifications, as well as CE and EEC compliance certifications. These credentials are more than just marketing badges; they represent a chain of accountability. If a component fails in the field, we have a complete quality management system, a physical factory address (No. 9999, West Jingshi Road, Jinan City), and traceable production records as our backbone.

Application Scenarios (and Limitations)
The BY-YS12000 is specifically designed for the collection of containerized, bagged, or loose domestic waste in urban residential areas, large communities, industrial facilities, institutions, and the narrow streets of older city districts. It is not designed as a micro-vehicle for extremely tight alleyways—as a 12.5-ton vehicle, it falls into the category of heavy-duty compaction trucks. Its advantages lie in zero emissions and a 305 km range, which, in most deployment scenarios, is sufficient to support a full municipal sanitation shift without midday charging.
For fleet operators evaluating this model, we recommend requesting the full technical PDF rather than relying solely on marketing summaries. If conditions permit, we welcome you to visit our factory in Jinan for a field inspection. The test vehicle featured in this report remains available for on-site technical review upon request.
